the OSes are installed in seperate FAT32 partitions.Please Kindly
explain whatever is your answer.

Depends on the program. Why are we playing hypotheticals. If you want an answer ask your question.

Most modern NT applications, when installed, make entries in the
system registry. If not registry entries, they will create .ini
files, and put these files in locations which are logical to the
developers of the software. In order for these applications to run
properly, the registry and *.ini files have to be setup at
installation time.

I have a small handful of very well-written utilities, from various
developers, that can be dropped into a folder and run from the folder
without any installation. Most applications cannot be installed this
way.

Whether an application can be installed into one of the OS's by simply
copying the shortcut from the other OS depends upon the application.
In most cases, the answer would be no. You will have to install each
application twice.

@David candy
I am sorry I was not clear in my first post, say if i want to install
winamp in my system, do I have to install it in both xp and me
individually or can i install it in one os and create a short cut in
another os, as both os'es use fat 32 partition. Thanks for your early
reply.

@chuck, thanks for your reply.

Using winamp on two OS's (and installed on 1) is not likely to be useful if it can work.

Most programs can be moved with a little effort (but definitely not Office and similar programs), one finds the files it's complaining about and put it in its directory. But with a program like winamp (assuming it can be moved), it needs to register file associations and perhaps codecs. So if it works it won't necessary work as you want it too (my definition of work is start without crashing).

Install once in each OS. Usually (but not always) you can use the same folder to install into so only 1 set of files are on the disk.
