Hello,
I just installed the RTM version of Office 2003. I was previously running
Office 2000 and have NEVER had a beta version of office on my machine. The
upgrade process went smoothly, but after the upgrade, I am unable to use
Outlook against my Exchange 2000 Server.
I deleted my Outlook profile and launched Outlook 2003. I went through the
new account wizard very easily and it had no problems validating my
username. However, when the wizard is complete, I see a "Configuring
Outlook" screen with the "Migrating Account Settings" stage in bold. I also
get an error message that states:
Unable to open your default e-mail folders. You must connect to your
Microsoft Exchange Server computer with the current profile before you can
synchronize your folders with your offline folder file.". Dismissing the
dialog closes outlook.
I am using the same username as my Exchange server has registered as my
primary address. This worked fine with Outlook 2000.
I then went into my profile and disabled offline folder use (hoping to get
rid of the previous error message). Now when I start Outlook, it states the
following:
"Unable to open your default e-mail folders. The Microsoft Exchange Server
computer is not available. Either there are network problems or the
Microsoft Exchange Server computer is down for maintenance."
I can ping the server and NET VIEW server with no problems. A network sniff
demonstrates my workstation communicating with the Exchange server over TCP
port 135; I cannot see anything wrong.
I then manually added a data file (Outlook 97-2000). I now get the
following error message:
"Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Unable to open the Outlook window.
The set of folders could not be opened."
There are no release notes in the product that help me diagnose this issue.
Are there any other steps that I can perform to fix this?
Thanks,
Shan McArthur
