I have been trying to fix minor modem and logon problems on a
friend's PC. His son gave him the PC with no documentation or
software what so ever but the Windows 2000 SP4 must be a legal one
because Microsoft is still allowing it to get updates. To make a long
story short I was messing around in the system32 directory looking for
clues on who made the modem when I must have expanded a cab file or
something destroying needed system information to the point it will
not boot at all. Screen where boot stops suggests I could attempt
repair by booting with original floppy or CD and hitting r on first
screen to repair. I can get to the C drive to look at files using an
old win98 boot disc I have. I believe microsoft will replace or sell
a need OS if I can prove legal ownership.
Question: Give the above is the any file I can look at to get a number
or product ID so I can go to Microsoft to get replacement disk?
email response not expected but to respond remove .uk at end
TIA
