Does anyone know why one of my machines might time out in
the network? We replaced an older box with a new Gateway
server. Copied all the data files and plugged in the IP
address. We gave the machine the same host name, same IP
address, all TCP/IP properties were matched. Of course we
did change the original box host name and IP Address
before we put both on the network. But the new gateway
times out of our network within 15 minutes of being
plugged in. When I plug in the old machine it works,
however we have configured other machines to reflect the
new machine(software issues). Does anyone know why the
new machine might time out? Our servers are on a
10.1.181xxx network our desktops are 10.1.182xxx Please
help!!

Define "timeout"? If this is new hardware I'd start with
the hardware end first and not your configuration. Check
the event log for clues. Check to see if your swich (or
managed hub) is showing any problems with the port(s) this
new server is plugged into. Could be something as simple
as a mismatch in speed/duplex (typically autonegotiation).

Try a new NIC. Move to new cabling. Move to a new switch
port. Just make sure you make simple, straight forward
changes and by all means ONLY CHANGE ONE THING AT A TIME!!!

Good luck

Did you rejoin the workstations to the server?
Why are the servers in a different subnet than the workstations? Got WINS
installed on the server?
