I tried rather stupidly to connect a Win2000 laptop to my
own computer by changing the System properties of the
laptop. I changed the domain of the laptop to a workgroup
with the same name as the workgroup on my computer, and
restarted the laptop. Now it is impossible to log on to
the laptop. The Domain field at the login window is gone,
and no known user of the laptop is possible to log in.

1. How can my action lead to this result?
2. Is there any way to undo it?
3. Is there any sneaky ways into the computer?

On the laptop there is an important PowerPoint
presentation (of course). And I am going to get flogged if
that Presentation is not available within 12 hrs!!!

HELP PLEASE!

Since the laptop was removed from the domain, no domain accounts will allow you to logon to the system. The only way to logon is with a local account. By
default there will be an administrator account created on the system. If you know the password for this account, then you should be able to logon. Otherwise,
there simply is no way to logon to the system. A re-install is the only way to get access. If you re-install into a parrallel directory, this will give you access to the
file system and you should be able to access the power point document you need unless this is stored on an encrypted volume. If you were using file
encryption, then the file is lost.

Thank you,
Mike Johnston
