Hello,

I recently moved from Win2k to WinXP. I have a link to "My Documents",
which I use frequently (goes to "C:\Documents and Settings\Jon\My
Documents"), but now when I hit backspace, instead of going up one folder
(to C:\Documents and Settings\bob\), it instead takes me to the desktop.

This is, of course, very annoying. Is there any way to get Windows to stop
redirecting me to the desktop when I just want to go up one folder?

Thanks,

Jon

That is normal. Notice where My Documents is.

This should be roughly the hierarchy of the Folders pane when in C:\

Desktop
[+] My Documents
[-] My Computer
.....[+] 3½ Floppy (A:)
.....[-] Local Disk (C:)
.........[+] Documents and Settings
.........[+] Program Files
.........RECYCLER (Hidden folder)
.........System Volume Information (Hidden folder)
.........[+] WINDOWS
.....[+] CD Drive (D:)
.....[+] CD Drive (E:)
.....[+] Control Panel
[+] My Network Places
Recycle Bin

Of course you will probably have more folders showing, or more or less
drives.

Try this.

In Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\Jon\My Documents

Start | Run | Type: . | Click OK | Yes, type a period.

Right click on your My Documents folder, point to Send To and click Desktop
(Create shortcut).

Open that shortcut and hit the Backspace, it should go to
C:\Documents and Settings\Jon

Indeed that did help - it worked perfectly! Thanks a ton for that, Wesley,
it is very much appreciated.
