Hi,I want to use a UPS via serial port.
But i can not find UPS.exe service in system32.
No UPS service in service MMC.
Microsoft remove UPS management from vista?

Serial Keys is not included in Windows Vista. In previous versions of
Windows, Serial Keys provided support so that alternative input devices
could be plugged into the computer's serial port.

Thanks, SO how can vista connect to UPS via serials UPS?
I have a serials UPS, I have to connect UPS to Serial ports...

They support UPS using USB connections. It's extremely limited, though.
The connection lets the computer know when it's on battery power and adjust
the power profile (when to turn off screen, hard drive, shutdown when
battery power reaches critical, standby, hibernate or just shutdown.)
accordingly.

I won't waste any more resources on it by installing the bloated UPS client
software from APC (the make of my UPS).

You might have to install your UPS software if you want support through the
serial port. Assuming the UPS maker offers that kind of software for
Windows Vista.

Thanks for your answer. Yes, I already noticed this problem in MSDN.
But i wonder what process deals with USB UPS.
For example, There is a UPS.exe on Win2000,XP,2003.
What is it on Vista. And i can open it on control panel applet---power
management---UPS page.
So Where can i find this tool?

There is no UPS.exe as far as I can tell on Vista, but I only have the Home
Basic version. You can find Power Options under Hardware and Sound in
Control Panel. The interface is very sparse, not much options, not much
graphics. Battery power meter is the power icon in the system tray.

In Control Panel, Hardware and Sound

PowerOptions
Change power-saving settings
Change what the power buttons do
Require a password when the computer wakes
Change when the computer sleeps

Hi,

You can't unless the UPS manufacturer can provide supporting software.
Native support was removed in Vista, I believe due to irresolvable conflicts
with the sleep function.
