I am trying to enter a formula into Excel (XP) to convert
all alpha characters to uppercase. My formula is =UPPER
(cellReference). I first attempt was to enter it manualy,
directly into the cell. It displayed the cell formula. I
then used the wizard thinking I had done something wrong.
In the wizard, it shows the right result, but in the
worksheet it still displays the formula. I went to Options
and, under the veiw tab, made sure "Formulas" was
unchecked. It was.

Any suggestions?

Help would be greatly appreciated!!

Kevin, is the cell formatted as text?

It's got something to do with the format of the cell.
Right click on the cell and click format cell. Change the
format to general. Then click ok. Then double click on
the cell again and hit enter.

It was sopmething very strange. I have not figured out
what was going on, but I got it to work. I tried setting
the sell to General, I tried text, neither worked. I then
set my cell reference from scratch (i.e. =C2), then I put
the function around the reference manually (i.e. =UPPER
(c2)). That worked. There was no apostrophe, not sure what
was going on??? When I used the wizard, I even tried
clearing the field and then starting the formula wizard.
No luck. Nothing until I took it bass ackwards and entered
my equation.

THANKS for the help!

Kevin
