Does uPnP support (for NAT traversal) on Windows 2000
clients exist? It's part of XP and it's available for 98
thru ME. However, I have been unable to find anything for
Windows 2000. Any pointers to a solution would be
appreciated.

Background: I use a laptop supplied by my college running
2000 Pro. MSN Messenger is used to collaborate with my
classmates. At home, laptop is connected to LAN with ADSL
Internet access through Linksys BEFSR81 router (which has
uPnP support). MSN Messenger on XP boxes works fine on
this network. On the 2000 laptop MSN Messenger is
continually disconnecting and reconnecting. Same thing
happened on the XP boxes until uPnP was enabled, so I'm
pretty sure that's the solution.

This document says it's not available. It doesn't have a creation date.

This is one from Sharon Crawford, written in July 2k2. Her email address,
which is promptly being harvested by all known spammers, is on the page.
Perhaps you could ask her since her article is about UPnP, but she only
mentions XP. )O:=

She even references a support group: http://www.upnp.org/
She's pretty handy.

Thanks Roland. I had a couple of those links, but you
rounded out the collection quite nicely. Seems I'll just
have to carry on without UPnP on Win2k for the moment.

You're welcome, Andy. Is there a reason why you cannot upgrade to XP?

The laptop belongs to the college I'm attending and it
came with it's own set of software. The college will not
support it if I change the operating system. With all the
hardware problems I've been having with the laptop (it's
been replaced 9 times in under a year), switching to an
unsupported configuration is not a viable option. The MSN
Messenger issue is not a show stopper, just an annoyance.
I'll live with it for now.
