since i can't send a portion of a vid through email, how do i upload a vid file or higher pic file to say, a friend or relative?
 
You or the prople you want to send to need some sort of server software. I
use http://www.wfshome.com/
I got the pro version so I could password protect it but there is a basic
free version you can get without a password feature. Just be careful with
that as it does leave a port open on your computer.

No. The port has to be open which means it has to pass through the firewall.
The free version only allows people to download from you so they can not
send anything to you. It also only allows access to the folder you have
those files in. Seems fairly safe. Don't use the default port. Set it to
12,555 or something like that.
