Uploading gets stalled during "Processing Web Updates" phase

When I upload to my web host server, two strange things happen:

1. It uploads one of my "themes" (Rice Paper) each time I upload ANY change
to the site, and

2. It takes a much longer time than normal to upload AND when it reaches
the "Processing Web Updates - 5 seconds remaining" stage, it seems to become
unresponsive.
 
The 2 may be related
Have you been browsing your web folders (say the _theme folder) in Windows Explorer, and generating any thumbs.db files in it?
