Upload Satus Bar

I know Microsoft is generally pretty controlling with regards to people
implementing new ideas into their software, but does anyone know of a patch
or add-in that will allow the upload feature within Front Page to look more
like Smart FTP does? I would like to know what file it is transfering and
see a status bar as to how the file transfer is going.

Is it just me or is it annoying to have it say... I'm working... and not
tell you anymore? How are you supposed to know if it's frozen or not?

Someone let MS know what's up or tell me where I can get a patch. In the
interum I'll be using Smart FTP.

First, Microsoft is not "controlling with regards to people impoementing new
ideas into their software." This is a bizarre comment.

Second, what "upload feature" are you referring to? Are you referring to
implementing a File Upload into a web page? If so, you should be aware that
the File Upload HTML element is not a product of Microsoft, nor does
Microsoft have any control over how it behaves. Microsoft didn't invent the
Internet (Al Gore did). Microsoft didn't invent HTML (Al Gore probably did).
The FrontPage File Upload component simply implements a File Upload HTML
element into a web page, and handles the File Upload on the server side. The
HTML File Upload form element does not use a status bar like Smart FTP does.
Smart FTP is a proprietary FTP client that doesn't work in a web page.

If you are NOT referring to implementing a File Upload into a web page,
please tell us what "upload feature" you're referring to.

Dear Kevin:

My notion is not to offend

You seemed to have just as much trouble understanding my comment as I do
your reply.

I've uploaded my website using the website folder view and then at the
bottom clicked on remote web site. From here I'll select folders or files
that I've updated. When I upload these folders/files it would be nice to
have a status bar instead of a simple "We're uploading your file(s)" Type of
message.

Now if Microsoft isn't as controlling as I percieve them to be (and I'll be
happy if I'm wrong). Has someone out ther updated this feature to include a
status bar?

Is this the feature you were saying Microsoft doesn't have control over?

I know smart FTP is an entirely different client and has nothing to do with
Front Page. But it is an extremely user friendly way to upload a web page
and I would like to see more of that implemented into Front Page's features.

On the Al Gore side of things... Wasn't that man absolutely brilliant about
saying the wrong thing? Sure he was president of the congress when they
passed the bill to transition the ARPA net towards the internet. But how he
became the father of the internet for that I don't know. It's for people
like him that google spellchecks words like potato when you do a search.

Anyway. Kevin has anyone got it in mind to put a statusbar on things?

If your web is FP extension enabled you should use FP's http method of
uploading it's more intelligent than manually uploading with ftp.

And if your web does have FPSE you should not use ftp at all or it will
likely break the extensions.

For all concerned:

I discovered what I was doing. I was clicking on the folders and then
selecting the upload ARROW button instead of the publish button. On one
particular site I have to do it this way to allow for multiple users editing
portions of the site. When you click the arrow it doesn't give you the
status bar the way I wanted it.

On my other sites, when I publish by hitting the publish button everything
works out fine.

Pardon my immaturity in my original message. I hate sounding like I'm a
teenager. But I guess a slip now and again reminds me that I'm still young!
