Upgrading XP SP1 to Vista

I am having trouble updating my computer to SP2. Windows Update just sits
there for hours saying that it's checking for updates, and never does
anything else. Will Vista need SP2 or any other XP updates to upgrade, or is
it just looking to see that you have XP, removing(or archiving) the XP files,
and completely installing everything that you need for Vista?

I already knew that one, but thanks anyway. I need to install it on one
computer, and it says "DO NOT CLICK DOWNLOAD IF YOU ARE UPDATING JUST ONE
COMPUTER".

Do you happen to know where I can get a link to a .exe or .msi file for ONE
computer?

This update is easier to distribute on a network share or DVD and thus
is intended to be installed on many computer (like in a company or
a campus).

Still nothing prevents you from installing it on a single computer even if
Microsoft prefer that you use Windows Update in that case.
And it looks like you have nothing to lose.

I had no idea that the Vista upgrade process require you to install SP2.
It will be a lot of trouble if you want to do a "clean" install. Lot of
steps to go through.

Hi,

It's the same link. It's just that it's intended for volume users. The
message is there to discourage mass use of it for this purpose by the
general public.

That is because the network version does not run a setup from the target
computer. To use the network version you should create a slipstreamed copy
of XP. I use AutoStreamer. It is simple and reliable. Once you have a
slipstreamed XP cd you can run a repair install or a clean install of XP in
preparation for upgrading to Vista.

Autostreamer will take your Windows cd, make a copy to hard disk, update the
copy to XP SP2 and create the image file. You then burn the image to disc
with one of the populare burning programs.
