Here is the situation. I have a Desktop PC with XP Home.
I bought a laptop with XP Pro. I want to use the Desktop
as the host for Remote Desktop. Is there any way to
install the additional features of XP Pro needed to do
this onto my Desktop without spending $200 for the full
XP Pro upgrade?

Not legally. You need a separate license for each copy of XP Pro on each machine. You could,
however, look at alternatives to Remote Desktop like VNC or NetMeeting Remote Desktop Sharing (RDS).

Get the VNC software from...

http://ultravnc.sourceforge.net/

Note the VNC data stream is *NOT* encrypted. You might consider running VNC through a VPN tunnel if
you want to access your desktop remotely over the public internet.

For help with NetMeeting RDS look at this KB article. NetMeeting is built-in to XP and can not be
upgraded...
