This is probably one of the dumber questions posted here but I can't
figure out how to upgrade Vuescan from the web site even though I've
done it several times in the past. There is a section on the web site
dealing with downloading Vuescan for free but I assume that's for
people who haven't bought it and want to try it out. I have the pro
version and am supposed to be able to get free upgrades forever but
for some reason the method of doing that is escaping me when I look at
the web site.

Last week I downloaded the latest copy.
It just overwrote the previous version.
I assume it checks the windows registry for something to determine
if you have bought a license. I suggest writing down the serial number
just in case.

No, it's for everybody. including the people who want to upgrade.

Just download the current version and install it. By default it will
replace whatever version you already have. Under Mac OS X it keeps the
registration information somewhere that doesn't get wiped out when you
install a new version, and I assume the same is true for Windows.

If you want to keep your old version as a backup in case there are
problems with the new one, just rename the folder that contains your
current version, before installing the new one. I always rename a newly
installed Vuescan folder immediately to something like Vuescan-x.xx.xx
using the appropiate version number, so the next installation won't wipe
it out.
