Upgrading Vista Versions

Being a volume license customer, I've downloaded Vista Business Edition to
install. However, I'm eventually going to want to run the Ultimate
Edition--which, as far as I can tell, isn't available to anyone right now
(someone please correct me if I'm wrong).

I've read that MS designed Vista to be easily upgradable from one edition to
another. In fact, I heard that all the "bits" for every version are on each
DVD (again, someone please correct me if I'm wrong).

So my question is this... If I install the Business Edition now, how hard
will it be to bump up to Ultimate Edition once it's available?

Without an Anytime Upgrade key, difficult to impossible. You'll probably
have to buy that key as I doubt you'll just be able to stick in an Ultimate
DVD and upgrade your volume license copy.

Buying a new key wouldn't be a problem; I'm just not wanting to have to
re-install the OS using a different DVD. If I'm going to have to go to that
trouble, I'm better of waiting until Ultimate is available.

Everything I have read about the Anytime upgrade, it is an in place upgrade
and you should not lose any of your current efforts. Not having seen any
testing of said process, no guarantees.

Hello John and John,
So while Windows Anytime Upgrade will upgrade Windows Vista Business to
Windows Vista Ultimate it will not upgrade volume media.

You will need to use different media for WAU as well. It will not be the
same media that ships as volume media.

For example if you had a Retail installation of Windows Vista Business
edition, you could upgrade to Windows Vista Ultimate. It would be a full
upgrade process but it would retain your settings and installed
applications.
