When I bought my computer (Dell) it was just a few weeks
before they were shipping with XP. I was anxious to get
the computer (had waited a long time) so I took it with
2000 installed. Shortly after XP was released MS sent me
the disk to upgrade to XP Pro. It has been sitting here
on my desk because I'm leery of installing it and messing
up what I have. I think I should install it because of
some of it's features but....I would like to know of
others who have installed XP Pro on 2000Pro and what their
experiences have been. Thanks

Hi Rita,

Windows 98 and Windows 2000 are very different "under the hood" and
Microsoft wanted to combine the two operating systems. Windows XP is that
combination; the Windows 2000 operating system engineered to run the
software developed for Windows 95, 98, & ME.

Most of the compatibility issues crop up going from Windows 98 or ME to
Windows XP. It's rather rare for upgrades from 2000 to XP to cause
problems. The exception to this being utilities written specifically for
Windows 2000 (virus detectors and the like).

Good luck,

-Anthony[MS]
