Upgrading to XP Pro

I am trying to upgrade my emachines laptop to XP-Pro. It
is currently running XP-home on an AMD Athlon 64. When I
try to upgade it fails claiming that certain files where
not installed. Any suggestions are welcome.

If what you are seeing are error messages during the install that says
"<such in such file> not copied" and you have to press ignore to keep going
then your problem is likely hardware related. Try a bare bones install.

Flaky RAM is one place to look. Another is a damaged XP CD. Even power
supply problems can cause this.
