I need to upgrade from windows xp to windows xp
professional. Will it delete any programs or files from
my pc in the upgrade process?

Greetings --

WinXP is designed to install and upgrade the existing operating
system while simultaneously preserving your applications and data, and
translating as many personalized settings as possible. The process is
designed to be, and normally is, quite painless. That said, things
can go wrong, in a small number of cases. If your data is at all
important to you, back it up before proceeding.

The upgrade from WinXP Home to WinXP Pro, in particular, should go
smoothly, as both operating systems use the same kernel.

You mean from XP *Home* to XP Professional?

No, that's the nature of an upgrade. Everything else stays the
same.

But bear in mind that any upgrade is a big step and there are
never guarantees. It's always possible for something unexpected
to go wrong. For that reason, it's prudent to make sure your
backups are current before taking any such big step.
