I am in the process of purchasing my upgrade components - asus
recommends certain brands of memory (i.e. CORSAIR CMX512-3200C2 64X64
400MHZ 512MB). I have never really paid any attention to that. Am I
missing out on anything?

I built a machine over the weekend with the ASUS A7N8XD mainboard, tried
using 3x512mb of cheap 400DDR ram and the machine wouldn't even boot up,
tried my trusty 333DDR ram and no probs at all! Unfortunately for me it
looks like I will have to try branded memory that ASUS recommend :)

I've purchased some Corsair XMS3200LL, should have arrived today but didn't.

Anyway, I think purchasing quality ram is important as you can be sure it'll
run at the spec without flaking out. Cheap memory can be the source of some
prety hard to find stability issues.
