upgrading processor

I have an Elite K7S5A motherboard with an AMD 2100+ chip.

Can I just replace the chip with an AMD 2600 or do I need to upgrade the
motherboars as well?

That all depends on which version of the 2600+ you are talking about.
You'll have to find a 266FSB Thoroughbred version, and they aren't in
production any more. Try eBay.

Sorry I can't help. I am just curious as to why you are replacing it?
The additional speed is not enough for you to pay for the chip -
getting it free?
