I currently have Office 97 loaded on my desktop and use
MS Office 97, MS Access 97, MS Excel 97, and Powerpoint
97.

If I upgrade to Office XP Student Edition will I lose the
ability to use MS Access as this is not included in the
upgrade?

Can Microsoft disable MS Access 97 on my desktop if it is
legally obtained software?

It should not remove Access 97, but just to be safe, choose Custom Install
on the first screen, not Upgrade. Click Next, and the installer program
will show you options for which programs you want to install. If you click
the Choose Advanced Customization option, the installer shows you a window
where you can pick and choose the options you want for each program. If you
don't choose Advanced, the installer will do a "Typical" install for the
programs you selected. In the next to last window, the installer gives you
options about which programs to remove. If it displays Access, be sure to
uncheck that option.

Hope that helps...

You can still use Access 97 even if you upgrade your other applications, HOWEVER
you must install the new version into a different directory. If you don't
install into a different directory, you will overwrite needed files.
