Hi,

I want to upgrade my computer and I need some tips.

Basically I need my computer to be faster, and here is my current
configuration:

1.7 GHz Celeron
128 MB RAM

I am planning to upgrade my RAM to 512MB as I have seen that upgrading
RAM will really boost up the speed. But I don't know my mainboard's RAM
slot supports this or not.

I am having a Kobian Mercury mainboard. It often shows that it's 845GL
or something like that, I am too familiar with these hardwares...

Any suggestions?

Leave your current computer exactly as it is. Change nothing. Build a new
one with all new components. You'll be much happier with the
esults. -Dave

Thank you Mike, It was a very good idea except that I don't have money
in my pocket to get a new one.

I don't have any intensions to buy a new one because except for the RAM
and processor everything else pretty much new. Infact I got new mouse,
speaker, etc very recently. I just want to make my computer work faster
and I want to know whether my mainboard could support the upgradation.

Thank you!

Do you have a manual for your mainboard that would show the model number and RAM
setup? If not, you may want to take a look inside the case or get somebody who
is familiar with Kobian Mercury to do it. A manual should also indicate which
processors the board supports.

Most mainboards have at least two RAM slots. Since it's unlikely there would be
two 64 MB modules installed, you probably have one slot free. But you would
need to know details of the RAM you already have so new RAM would match it.

Kobian made a number of mainboards with the 845GL Intel chipset. If you don't
have the manual for yours, manuals are available for download at the Mercury
site. These are two of the possibilities:

KOB 845GL NDMX -
http://www.mercury-pc.com/downloads_list.php?productid=336

KOB 845GL NDSMx -
http://www.mercury-pc.com/downloads_list.php?productid=51

If one of those isn't yours, you should be able to find it using this page:
http://www.mercury-pc.com/downloads.php

Good luck!
