Hi,

If a ML370 G2 or G3 has been set-up with 4 drives as a RAID 5 configuration
and no other disks are in the server is it possible to add two new disks and
configure them as part of the RAID 5 - or will this destroy the data on the
RAID 5.

In other words, can you add disks to a server which was not properly speced
up and did not have enough disks installed during the RAID configuration,
build and install of Windows?

Cheers,

John.

If you want to increase the number of drives in a currently operational RAID
setup, first save 100% of the data, then install the new drives, then run the
RAID controller setup to recognize the new drives as part of the RAID. Finally
reload all the data on the new RAID setup.

I would be in great shock and deep awe if some purveyor of RAID gear came up
with a way to dynamically add new drives to an existing setup without first
saving the data. As a matter of caring for data prudently, I'd back it all up
first, anyway... Ben Myers
