Upgrading Mcafee ViursScan Pro 6.0

I have version 6.0 of McAfee VirusScan. I clicked on update in the program
and it alerted me that I needed my free update period has expired and takes
me to a screen to update my signature files. When I get to this screen I
don't see an option for the version that I have, which is 6.0. The only
options available are for version 7.0. Is it okay to purchase the 7.0
update, even though I have version 6.0? Or should I just upgrade to 8.0?
 
Are you trying to "upgrade " to version 7 or "update" your version 6 dat
files which are the same for vs7 but will not work for vs8? VS8 uses activex
to download the updates. VS7 updates come a different path.

If you are asking if you should upgrade to vs7 or vs7 I recommend go to vs7.
As far as I see vs8 is still very buggy for some the email scanner component
is causing heaps of problems tho it works fine for me with minor
modifications.

I suggest upgrade to vs7 and check if that enables a free update to vs8
within a certain period . There is a customer services number on their site
as well you can ask this of. some vs8 users have request a downgrade to vs7
till the email scanner issue fixed

I am trying to "update" my 6.0 signature files. I have version 6 of
Antivirus. I can't automatically update because my 1 year period of free
updates has expired. I don't see an option to subscribe to another year of
6.0 signature files only 7.

Though if you click renew you get in a loop and need to pretend you have
vs7.

Is yours an OEM supplied ie not a licenced

This purchase will add an additional 365 days of updates for virus
definitions of your McAfee Consumer Product. This purchase will apply only
to fully licensed versions of VirusScan 7.0. This purchase does not apply to
evaluation/demo versions of VirusScan. This purchase does not apply to OEM
(Original Equipment Manufacturer) versions that were installed on a computer
directly from a PC supplier/manufacturer."

I have a licensed version of 6.0 that I purchased a little over a year ago.
