I am trying to upgrade millienimum to Windows Home edition. It loads to the point of adjusts screen resolution . After that it never comes back to the nex screen to see if you cann see what's on the screen. One time it gave me an error of a file to restart but says it is mussing.

I have tried this several times and the same thing occurs. If I go into to safe mode the the upgrade is there. I can't do anything else becaue it won't allow it!!

I have an AMD athlon processor. I have had no problem loading Millienmun. I also have had done a new installation with the same software the same problem occurs. I have plenty of memory. How can I correct this problem.?

Thanks all
Rika

I did not think you could upgrade ME to XP.
I think you have to do a fresh install.

welcome to PCR

Never "upgrade" any Windows, always do a clean install, even with an upgrade CD it can be done.

A little more info on what hardware you have may help us to eliminate a hardware problem.

updateing from Millenium to Upgrade to Windows Xp

Hi
I have a Gateway 1200 Pc! Amd Athlon 1200Mhz20 GB 4mUltra ATA Hard Drive. Software I had Windows Millennium Edition. I bought Home edition Xp . Have not had any problems running the software. Microsoft reccomends doing an upgrade on older operating systems.
I have taken this computer back to zero and tried loading xp on a new installation. I couldn't get by the screen that checks to see if your running a real copy of windows. I tried putting in the operating disc from millenium but still could not get by that screen. Kept getting does not recognize windows as a legitmate copy of windows.

When I did the upgrade I chect to see if Xp was compatiable. No problems found on the test.

A friend of mine had a problem with xp loading! She took it to the computer geeks. nShe thinks they loaded at the Dos prompt. I do not know how to do that. But she did get it loaded. they also loaded SP2 at the same time.

Thanks for your help!! Any idea you give me would be very helpful!

Try wiping out all of the hdd with some software other than Windows. Then reformat the drive to a NTFS file system. Then try to install XP.
Parted Magic would be a easy to use tool for this. Google for the home page for it.

:)

Thanks I will try that. I tried to load another dimmemory but I couldn't find the 3 rd slot. I did an inventory It show the 2 loaded dim slots and the 3rd one empty. Do I have to change the board to get the slots for the third one.

Thanks Rika
