Have a Gateway computer which came with XP Home
installed. Recently purchased an upgrade to XP Pro and
installed it. When I check about windows it still shows
the XP Home information. I think the product installed
properly but I can't figure out how to tell other than by
using the windows - about option. Any ideas? This may
sound like a really stupid question but I'm only a
moderate-level user.

Start>Run> winver
should bring up a screen identifying the currently installed Windows.

If only a moderate level user, why on earth (be honest) are you upgrading to
XP Pro?

Hi, Steve.

As Sharon says, Winver will tell you. Look in the colored area at the top
of that window; the main area only gives you version numbers, without saying
Home or Pro.

My favorite way is to just press Win+Break, which pops up the System
Properties screen. Mine says:
System
Microsoft Window XP
Professional
Version 2002
Service Pack 1

Yours may vary slightly, depending on whatever changes Gateway may have
made.
