When installing 2003 on a PC (Home XP) using 2000 must I first deinstall 2000
or will 2003 just overlay the older version? If it just overlays will 2003
incorporate the 2000 pst files automatically or must I do a copy of a
backed-up pst file (e.g. contacts)?

Are questions on this site reviewed and not posted if the info has
previously been answered? I left this question on 11/20, but it's not been
posted.

yes

yes - but you might want to consider converting to the 2003 default pst file
in Unicode format which will expand to many times the size of the pre-2003
pst file....

a good idea to backup your critical data anyway when doing a migration such
as this.....

While what Gordon says is true, it would be wiser to uninstall Outlook 2000
first, in my opinion.

Just realized I don't know how to uninstall OL2000 on my PC. I don't have
the original 2000 install disc any longer. I do have a new OL2003 product
disc. How do I go about the uninstall? Looked through the general OL Q & A,
but didn't see a reference to the process.

Thanks,

Additional question: Why does the .pst file listed in My Documents show
797,296KB (in my case) and yet if I go to Properties for the same file it
shows size is 778MB, i.e. why the difference? Is it actual data vs max. file
size?

Control Panel>Add or Remove Programs>Microsoft Office's change option should
allow you to uninstall Outlook.

797,296/1024=778.6 1024 bytes is one K bytes.

Brian,
First-off thanks for all your help. It must get old. Don't know if the
next question is your territory?

1. Couldn"t individually uninstall Outlook 2000 as mine was preminum Office
and the uninstall program only would allow uninstalling the whole package.
So, installed 2003 Outlook which appeared to go fine. It incorporated all
PST info and seems to be running fine with the exception of new mail out and
in:

2. I use Outlook from two different email addresses - Comcast and MSN.
Right after the 2003 installation neither had remained tied to OL. I went
into OL through the existing "Choose a Profile" box, rt clicked on Inbox->
Poperties->Home page and filled in the address box with the comcast address.
That seemed to work and I can send/receive messages from that OL. Tried the
same process from the other "MSN" "Choose a Profile" box which does not work.
It results in a sent email going into the Outbox and an error message "!MSN
Account - Receiving reported error (0x800CCC0F): The connection to the server
was interrupted. If this problem continues, contact your server
administrator or Internet Service Provider (ISP)." Is this really an ISP
issue or something I created? I had been having problems in OL in this
account sending emails with large #s of addresses.

Thanks for your help,

It is usually a good idea when you upgrade to start with a new mail profile
and re-add the accounts to that profile.
