Upgrading from one CPU to two CPUs?

Hi,

I have an older PC (Dell Optiplex GX300) running Windows 2000. The
motherboard has dual CPU slots, but only one CPU was installed when I
purchased it.

I plugged in another CPU today, and it seems to be working fine as far
as the BIOS is concerned; it recognizes the 2nd CPU and says it's
enabled.

However, Windows does not seem to have automatically detected it. I
tried running the install new hardware dialog, but it neither detected
the new CPU nor gave me an option to manually install it.

How do I upgrade Windows 2000 to recognize the 2nd CPU?

Thanks,
Frank

Go in the Device Manager and change the Uni-Processor hal to
Multi-processor hal. Usually an easy straightforward thing to do. Just
keep the same type of hal, example if you have a ACPI UniProc change it
to an ACPI MultiProc, replace Uni MPS with Multi MPS and so on. See here:
