Hello,

I have an old Compaq Presario 5000c which has a Duron 800 Mhz
processor and
128 MB of RAM. Is it feasible to upgrade this computer? I was thinking
of putting a
new economy motherboard in it,

(PC Chips (M810LMR-Ver7.0) Athlon/Duron/XP Ready SiS730S Chipset
w/Audio/Lan/Video UDMA-133 Micro 2PCI 1AGP ATX (No IO SHIELD, No
Accesories, No Drivers) 60 Day Warranty DEMO Board 1 $15.00 $15.00)

so I can use a spare 512 MB DDR chip because that RAM that's compatible
to the board is overpriced for what it is. . I have a few extra power
supplies that I could also use. I don't care if I have to modify the
case a little to make everything fit together.
or throw everything into another case I have lying around..It's a
utility computer I use to run one program that operates a milling
machine, so it doesn't have to be extremely fast, but I'd like it to be
a little faster, if possible. Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated.

What is the fastest Athlon XP processor that the Compaq's motherboard
can run?

The motherboard manual should supply that information.

Compaqs use motherboards made by the major manufacturers.

If you can run a 2000+ of higher Athlon XP and add a 512MB RAM module,
it should be a worthwhile upgrade if you only use the PC for office
work, email, and web access.
