I know that you have to do a clean install but is there a
way to save all files and settings and transfer onto the
newly updated XP?

Use the files and settings wizard in XP. Start button/accessories to trans
fer from old pc to new.

PS for the old pc use the files and transfer wizard on the xp cd.Thing is
the file maybe too big for a cdr so u may have to use a dvd-r/dvd+r or a
harddrive u can put in both machines.

Full or upgrade versions of Retail XP Pro can upgrade Win 2K, OEM versions
and either upgrade or full XP Home cannot be used for anything but a clean
install.
Click on or copy and paste the link below into your web browser address box.
