Hello;

I am connected to a Home Network. I upgraded my machine to Windows XP Pro.
The other two machines continue to use Windows ME.( this has generated a
flurry of complaints from other family members). We can all log on to the
Internet via a DSL modem and a Netgear Router. We can all print to two
printers connected to the Network via and HP Jetdirect print server.
However, we can not seem to connect to one another. Where do I start to
troubleshoot this hairy problem? Can you direct me to an MVP website and,
or, a Microsoft KB article. Thanks for all the help. Needless to say, I
remain in the doghouse until I get this problem solved. Time is of the
essence. My granddaughter won't talk to me. All help will be greatly
appreciated. I am basically a beginner with "pinging" and all that other
stuff. Help!!!!

If your XP machine has not been added to local network, try this; Start
Button\Settings\Control Panel\System\name tab\net ID button\Follow Wizzard
instructions.
If that is not the problem or no success, go to newsgroups icon and type
windowsxp.network_web double click to subscribe and post your request and/or
read other posts related to same problem..

also, see if you can find help here.

Hello Haus and Jose;
Thank you for taking the time to respond to me. I do appreciate it. I have
Zone Alarm firewall running on each machine in the Network. However, the
internal firewall on the Windows XP machine is disabled. I am paranoid about
disabling Zone Alarm. Won't this make the machines vulnerable to attack from
the Internet? We do go out on the Internet via a Netgear router which may
have a built in firewall. Is this enough protection. I will not proceed
until you advise. Thanks millions.
