I upgraded my computer from an AMD Athlon 1250 MHz to a
AMD XP 2000+ and now whenever I try to boot my computer
Windows XP says that ntoskrnl.exe is missing and that I
should reinstall. Is there any way I can get it to work
properly without having to reinstall the OS?

Hi, Evan.

Simply unplugging the 1250 and plugging in the 2000+ should not have caused
ntoskrnl.exe to go missing.

Did you also replace the motherboard and chipset? If so, then you need to
do an "in-place upgrade", as described in the reference Jim Macklin gave
you. This lets WinXP Setup run again to detect your new hardware
environment and re-customize WinXP to fit. It's probably a half-day
project, because you will need to visit Windows Update as soon as you get
your firewall and antivirus protection back in place to get and install all
the hotfixes. But, it should preserve all your installed applications and
data - and most of your tweaks.
