I have upgraded my hard drive fron a 20 gig to an 80 gig.
Both are western digital. The problem is that after I
copied the 20 to the 80 and removed the 20 my system will
not start. The tech at western digital says that it is a
problem with XP and have to run the XP "repair feature"
from the system disk. How do I do this?

Thanks for all your help

I've have the same problem occur on my hard drive this
past weekend.
I've been searching online and most of the messages have
been redundant information that hasn't helped me at all.
One of the few helpful hints I've gotten is this one from
another forum:

Re: [XP] A Disk Read Error Occurred!!! HELP PLEASE
I just wanted to say I had the same exact problem and I
have fixed it by booting from my xp cd going to the repair
option and typeing chkdsk /r then I typed "fixboot" and Y
then restarted and everything is fine now....dont by a new
hard drive.......

I just found it this morning, so I haven't tried it yet.
If you get a chance to try it and it works, please let me
know by responding to this. Thanks

What did you use to copy the data over from one drive to another? This is
most likely not a problem in Windows XP, but with the cloning software that
was used to move the data. Fixboot is a command that re-writes the boot
sector on the drive, which is necessary for the OS to boot. If the cloning
software didn't re-create the boot sector correctly, then this can occur.

What exact error are you seeing when you boot up?
