I HAD AN OLDER COM. I RECENTLY UPGRADED TO A BIGGER HARD
DRIVE KNEW MOTHERBOARD, AND SO ON CAN I INSTALL MY WINDOWS
XP BACK IN WITHOUT ANY TROUBLE? OR DO I HAVE TO CONTACT
SOMEONE? I WAS TOLD I SIGNED AN AGREEMENT SO IT WILL ONLY
RECONIZE ONE MOTHERBOARD.

First, you need to turn off caps lock.

Secondly, you need to check whether your copy of Windows XP is OEM or
retail. Your certificate of authenticity will tell you this.

If it's OEM, then the copy is licensed for use only on the computer with
which is was shipped.

If it's retail, you're allowed to transfer it to the new computer, but you
must remove the software from the older one. That is, you can't "share" the
software between two computers.

Another issue is product activation. You won't be able to activate the
software once it's installed using the Internet. This is to prevent you
"lending" your copy to a friend. You will have to use the freephone number
provided when you try to activate and phone Microsoft and tell them what you
are doing. As long as it's a retail product and not OEM, you're perfectly
entitled to do this.

Caps lock off please. It makes the post difficult to read and is considered
SHOUTING in newsgroups.

If you have a retail version of the XP install CD (not an OEM recovery disk)
you'll be fine installing XP on the new hard drive.

As long as you haven't swapped the old drive into another machine, with the
original install of XP active and being used, you're not in breach of any
agreement.

hope that helps

Fairly comprehensive reply, but Rhonda *may* be able to activate over the
internet. It will depend on when she last activated XP on her previous
hardware. I've never had to use the freephone number to call Microsoft to
activate my re-installations of XP despite many hardware changes, including
a complete system upgrade - new HD, mainboard, CPU, etc - and more than a
few re-activations in between.
