I wish to upgrade winME to 2000 proffesional. What probs.
can I expect? I know that it is better to do a clean
install but my cliant is afraid of losing her programs and
settings. Will the upgrade need to be FAT32?
Thanks.

Windows 2000 came BEFORE WinME and so is NOT in the "upgrade path".
Attempts to perform an upgrade rather than a clean install will result
in "bizare" problems from the left overs of WinME. You will then keep
coming back asking how and why to fix this and that. Each time the
recommendation will be to flush the drive and do a clean install.
Eventually you will do just that. If the client is afraid of loosing the
settings and programs and have to reinstall, you are better off
addressing the change over now rather than try to sort the remains of a
crashed system from the attempted "upgrade" at a time not of your choosing.
