Tris,

Start by looking at "ipconfig /all" from both computers, and compare.

When you upgraded, did you get network card drivers which specifically say
Windows XP SP2 compatible? Windows ME, and Windows XP pre SP2 drivers may be
problematic. Did you get drivers from the vendor?

Tris,

My motto is (one of them) if you aren't overlooking something, you aren't trying
hard enough. ;) So now's your chance to help us out, as we all learn.

You have an nVidia nForce on 1stcomp. That is a leading edge network device,
which contains a hardware firewall, or so we're lead to believe from their
website. Please do some reading, and be aware of what you own. Start with my
article, if you wish, and follow the links.

http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2006/02/hidden-personal-firewall-nvidia-nforce.html

Please let us know how this goes for you. You're not the first person here to
have an nForce, so we're all trying to learn from the experiences of each other.

But 2ndcomp has IP settings, etc, so I don't think that updated network drivers
will be your only (or even effective at all) solution. What I need you to do is
a pair of 4 way tests, run from 1stcomp and then from 2ndcomp, with both
computers live and online as best as you can get.

# From a command window:
1. Ping www.yahoo.com.
2. Ping 66.94.230.33.
3. Report success / exact text of error messages.
# From your browser:
1. Browse www.yahoo.com.
2. Browse 66.94.230.33.

Please be diligent and precise in your reports. Given the results from all 8
tests, we'll have a good possibility of seeing where your problems lie.
