I recently upgraded to XP and am having problems with my
Netgear PCI wireless card (MA311). The XP Device Manager
indicates that there is a problem with the device or
drivers. When I try to reinstall the drivers XP bombs at
the end saying that the 'service or service name is
already present'. I have removed the hardware,
reinstalled it and done extensive troubleshooting, but
still get the service name error. It seems as though it
thinks the device driver is already installed. The card
was working fine before the XP upgrade. Any ideas???

Try this:

Uninstall the driver in Device Manager. In other words, completely remove
it.
Shutdown the PC.
Physically remove the wireless card. Note the slot location.
Re-start Windows without the card. Windows will start and have no knowledge
of the card.
Check Device Manager to make sure no remnants of the card or driver remain.
Shutdown the PC again.
Install the wireless card again but in a different PCI slot from before.
Re-start Windows and have it find the "new" card and have it install the
"new" drivers.
Check the Netgear site for any updated drivers. Install if required.

Good luck.
