I have a computer that recently got upgrade from XP SP1 to SP2. On it were 2
USB stick drives that were working fine. After the upgrade, the computer
does not detect them anymore. I have tried all the USB ports, and I have
also removed all the USB Root Hub's out of Device Manager, letting XP
re-install them. The drives are still not being detected. Any ideas?

Sometimes USB devices come into conflict with other installed
hardware/drives. Use drive management and reassign drive letters for any
drives you have presently installed *except the hard drives*.

Get them out of the way. I typically assign my CD drive to Drive Y: and my
DVD drive to drive Z:

If you have any card readers attached to your system, get them out of the
way also. Same with Zip drives.

Then reboot and see if the USB drives are assigned a letter.

I had a similar problem, couldn't install a USB printer. I tried everything
everyone could come up with, but it wouldn't complete the driver
installation for any of three different brands of printers. Finally ended
up reinstalling XP and reapplying SP2 without any problems. Beats me.
