Badger,
If the USB port is on the system motherboard, you should look into updating
your BIOS. If the USB port is an expansion PCI card you need to consult the
card manufacturer to see if they have Windows 2000 drivers for this
particular device.
Once you get the root hub properly detected the external device will again
become accessible.
