Our company recently upgraded from Novell Netware to
Windows 2000 Server. Does anyone know of an equivilent in
the new environment to the Novell utility filer?

hahaha you said upgrade

but really, there is no "filer" or "salvage" with w2ksvr. I dont know where
you are getting this word "upgrade" from.

No, I guess I didn't mean "upgrade". Our server was
replaced, so the project was called an "upgrade" but along
with the refresh, we switched to w2ksvr. We utilize 3rd
party support and have no local administration rights, so
currently the only way to salvage/restore files is to
contact our 3rd party vendor and have them restore files
from tape backup. I was just looking for another option
and hoping W2ksvr had a utility built-in.

There are 3rd party utilities that you can install on the w2ksvr to get
"salvage" like tools back. Again, thats $ out of your pocket for an option
you already had.

Hi/2 the other downgrader ;-))

As for file management:

Go and get winfile (from an NT4 installation)

Salvage stuff:
Go, google and buy for many dollars i.e. Norton (which gives you a
some other "nice" gotchas, instabilities etc.)

Have luck and fun and go and hire some additional staff.

Another option is to upgrade to W2K3, it has shadow file copy, which is a
very bastardised version of NW filer/salvage.
Loss of this feature alone is going to cost your company $$$, who didn't do
their home work?

no one cares about security or functionality, they want shiney.

There are many 3rd party products that can do this type of thing, but they
will cost you extra, and dont work as well.

Thanks to all for responding!
