more or less save without all the problems i read ?
thanks

If it helps. I had to install manually (and did so over the top of BETA1) by
downloading WindowsDefender.msi from the web site. You will need this file
for the 32bit system. In my case, MSAS did not advise me there was a newer
version available so I found it necessary. It seems the installation
procedure does not completely uninstall BETA1 as I still have the Microsoft
Antispyware folder and contents sitting on my HD. However, all is well on my
system and WD BETA2 is chugging along quite happily. The only thing I did
after the install was to run CCleaner to clear out the redundant registry
entries for BETA1 of which there were plenty.

I agree. The installation of WinDefend did not completely remove all MSAS
folders and shortcuts from my PC and I had problems installing at first. The
updated release notes address some of the problems we encountered and provide
solutions. There does not seen to be any reason not to uninstall MSAS and do
a thorough cleanup before trying to install Defender. Defender does not
depend on any component of MSAS for its installation. Defender is now up and
running well on my PC and I am very pleased with it.

Benoit - I would read the known issues:

http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/about/overview.mspx

Theses issues exist--and you should see whether any is relevant to you--in
particular the issues relating to non-English versions of Windows, perhaps.
If they are, I'd have available--printed or saved--the relevant KB articles
associated with the known issues you might see.

Windows Defender will upgrade the in-place Microsoft Antispyware. No action
is needed before running the downloaded file. (I've done it various ways,
and see no difference in the results.

The most common "issue" after the update to Windows Defender is a failure to
update. There are several causes for this, and I believe most or all of
them are well understood, and have workarounds.

Hello,

thanks to all.

Bill it's difficult to me to explain in english i'm belgian (french) but i
try..;-)

i think, with the article i give, that when i do "check update" in MSAS,
MSAS wil do the upgrade to WD, but it seems no.
Then i must do the download from WD manually and i let do WD for the
uninstall from MSAS

I see not the issues you said for non english version ???? what will you
said ?

You have the correct idea. I have not seen beta2 offered
automatically--don't know if that will happen.

You will need to get it manually--and just run it--it will remove the old
beta.

This issue is one you may well run into:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=915087

Additionally, I've seen some info that on non-English versions the shortcut
is sometimes not placed in the start menu. The user interface is \program
files\windows defender\msascui.exe

Be aware that there will normally be no icon visible in the notification
area when Windows Defender is active.
