I have 2 AD box. Do I simply upgrade one to Native mode and the other will
upgrade as well? Also, we have an Exchange 2K server as well, should upgrade
that afterwards or first? Will it break any links between exchange and AD?

i know that win95/98/NT 4.0 clients will not be able to connect any longer,
but what about the Outlook clients? we are using Outlook XP/2002 and are
currently upgrading to Outlook 2003.

Thanks!

Che,

You can change to native mode after making sure all domain controllers in
your domain are running Windows 2000 Server. To switch to native mode

1. Right-click the domain object and then click Properties.

2. Click Change Mode.

3. You receive a message requiring confirmation. Click Yes to continue.
Click OK to proceed, or No to stop this action. If you plan to add Windows
NT 4.0 domain controllers to your configuration, do not proceed.

You already have an Exchange 2000 Server, I am not sure of the upgrade
(Exchange or AD) you have mentioned in your post. Since you have Exchange
2000, it should not matter if the Forest Funtional Level is changed to
Native.

For Windows 98 clients I would suggest you to follow the KB article
mentioned below:

The DOMAIN is native or mixed mode not the individual DCs.
When you switch to native mode using one DC it will
replicate to the others.

Hmm, what gives you that impression? I don't believe that it
is true. Switching to native mode means that you cannot have
NT4 BDCs. That is all.

How is the Outlook client version an issue? The OS is what
logs into the Domain.

Cheers,

Cliff

Thanks Cliff! that's what i kinda figured, but after reading some newsgroups
online, that's what they stated so i was a bit confused and just wanted to
make sure. Thanks for confirming!

thanks for your help! one more question:

i'm planning on this after hours, but was told by a consultant that no users
should have access to the directory while the upgrade or some changes will
be missed?
