Upgrade to MMC 8.7?

I am still running MMC 8.5, Cat 3.7 driver with AIW Radeon on WinXP.
Remote Wonder 2.0.

I basically use the tuner & recording scheduler to time-shift some TV shows.
I don't bother with DVD, CD, VCD players. I don't use the Library or
Easylook.

Is there a reason to upgrade the MMC to 8.6 or 8.7?

One feature I am wishing for is to be able to set the TV volume on mute when
I schedule the recording.
I don't suppose this is added in MMC 8.6 or 8.7?

Thanks,

yuki

If you upgrade, there is a good chance you'll start dropping frames.
On the Rage3D forum, the majority of participants report frame drops,
usually of less than one percent. Admittedly, it's usually during the
first few seconds of a scheduled capture that the dropping occurs.
However, I never had the problem with 8.5. Your MMC configuration
utility will report that the capture drivers are unsupported, and that
you don't have MMX support. If you can live with that, upgrade.
Personally, it makes me a bit leery, even if ATI says the configuration
utility is at fault.

The configuration utility has been reporting errors for the last few
upgrades, but I have been ignoring them since it does not seem to affect the
TV recording function (DVD quality in MPEG-2).

I use the ATI player or Windows Media Player for playback, it just works for
me so there has not been a big incentive to upgrade unless there are new
features I really want to use.

The upgrading process is such a pain so I don't want to go through with it
unless it is worthwhile.

Yuki,
You can set MMC 8.7 to automatically mute when you're recording and
shut down MMC when the recording is finished.
