I want to upgrade to a larger drive but have already upgraded to Vista
Business and activated.
Anyone know the best way to accomplish this? Just need more hdd space and
want to ditch my old hdd and install a new bootable drive.
TIA

I don't want to reinstall xp only to reinstall vista!!! then go thru phone
activation.....
tks M$...anyone got an answer?

Use a tool like Acronis True Image (Version 10 for Vista) to clone your
drive to the new larger one. Some drives include a vendor provided utility
for this also, although I don't know about Vista compatibility on those.

Great...anyway to accomplish this without, ummmmmm spending more $ ?
(provided the new drive doesn't come with a compatible utility)

believe that western digital and seagate both include programs with the drive or downloadable to do this.
might check their web sites before purchase to see.

See if the drive manufacturer has a tool to clone the old drive to the new.
With retail drive kits it normally comes on a floppy or CD with the drive.
For white box kits you can download the utility from the drive
manufacturer's site.

Another option is to use Complete PC backup (available in Business) to image
the drive to USB external drive, then install the new drive, and do a
Complete PC restore by booting the Vista DVD. I haven't tried this and I
haven't seen any posts in here about anyone who has, but I believe it should
work fine.

Make sure that for the first boot up with the new drive with the Vista
installation, only the new drive is present. Remove the old one, then after
that first boot up you can install the second drive and delete the Vista
installation.

I have done it on an Ultimate (full version not upgrade) and it works fine.
I think the upgrade DVD and the full DVD are the same so should be no
problem.

Yup...that works, I had purchased Vista Business, did the complete backup to
another hdd, added my new hdd then restored. Works great and thanks
alot!!!!!!

You're welcome.
