Upgrade slowed me down?

I just upgraded from a PIII 733Mhz processor to a P4 2.4
Ghz. At the same time, I replaced the motherboard (to
Asus P4G8x) and graphics card (MSI FX5600 256MB). At
first powerup, the MB would go through POST just fine
but when it tried to load windows, I could see the blue
screen of death flicker on for a fraction of a second,
then the computer would reboot. I could never see the
error message on the BSOD, so after trying many things, I
decided to simply wipe my HD and do a new, clean install
(no upgrade, just WinXP Pro to WinXP Pro). After the new
install, computer would finally boot up.

After reainstalling software, updates, etc, etc, I am
left with two problems. 1) while doing the POST, the MB
alerts me that I there is no keyboard installed (I am
using a MS Office keyboard, USB) but I can still access
the BIOS if needed, and once Windows finishes loading,
the keyboard works just fine. 2) After the POST, I get
the first WinXP fullscreen logo and status bar indicating
that Windows is loading. Then, the screen goes black for
no less than five minutes. No HD activity, no response to
keyboard (here it indeed acts like there is no KB
installed), nothing. Then, finally, Windows finishes
loading and everything is just fine.

Any ideas? I have downloaded all of the most current
drivers for everything. The only thing I haven't done is
update the MB BIOS. Perhaps I am missing something in the
WinXP settings?

Oh yeah, breifly, as the POST runs, the systems prompts
me to press F4 or ctrl+s to install Raid something or
other. Once that passes through it's wait time with no
response, two lines print:

Primary Channel: Not Installed(or detected possibly)
Secondary Channel: Not Installed

could this have something to do with it? I have no idea
what this is referring to or what resource it is checking
to produce this message. Thanks in advance for any ideas!

It could be your motherboard. Apparently XP is not in
good mood with some motherboards and yours could be one
of them. Have you tried to set your Disk Drive as Master
only ?

BIOS by default enables a number of peripherals that you
may or may not require. Probably, your motherboard has
a built-in RAID controller. It has it's own internal BIOS
that is scanning the channels for devices. You need to go
into BIOS and search for Integrated Peripherals and set
the RAID controller to "Disabled". In this same category,
you will find the options for onboard Sound, NIC, etc.
I believe these settings will correct the 5-Minute Blackout.

Also check the BIOS for a setting for 'legacy USB' devices. I think you
will find it on the Advanced Menu on that BIOS, and it will be on Auto
by default - try it on Enabled
