I have tried running upgrade from Win 98se and I have made
sure all components were compatible and ran through the
Windows 2000 compatability check, when it gets to the text
mode setup and asks to choose Enter to continue with
setup, it wont go ,I have opened the CD and put it in
again and hit enter it starts to run and then stops and
says enter cd and choose enter to continue. The only other
choice is F3 to quit and that works. Anyone know how I can
get into setup? Thanks

Save yourself some time and trouble, given that you'll more than likely end
up with an unstable OS with all the remnants/ corruption left behind from
the upgrade. Best to blow it all away and go for the clean install.

To do a clean install, either boot the Windows 2000 CD-Rom or setup disks.
The set of four install disks can be created from your Win2k CD-rom; change
to the \bootdisk directory on the cd-rom and execute makeboot.exe (from dos)
or makebt32.exe (from 32 bit) and follow the prompts.

When you get to the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions
found. After you delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again
restart the pc booting the CD-Rom or setup disks to avoid unexpected drive
letter assignments with your new install.

During Windows 2000 setup, at some point, will want to confirm the previous
operating system for the upgrade; at that point you'll simply insert the
qualified product install CD for it to verify. Then the install will
proceed.

Check the pc, mb or hardware manufacturer's web site for the latest bios and
or Windows 2000 drivers for your devices.

Thanks and your right that is the best way to do it,
problem is I have lost the original driver files and
recovery discs for the computer and have had a horrible
time fine tuning and get all the right drivers and stuff
to get the computer to work, I am afraid that if I do a
clean install then I will run into the original problem of
incompatibility, at least that was what happened when I
tried to do clean install before all the drivers help i
got after going back to 98 I hope that there can be some
way to fix this I really need the Windows 2000 for my
schoolwork, Thannks again

None of the win9x drivers will be reused.
