I've got a Celeron 950 CPU in a slotket on an Asus P2BF 440BX Motherboard.
My graphics card is a Leadtek WInfast Geforce2 MX SH 64MB. I've got 256k of
RAM, 2 168 pin DIMMs, one is Namebrands, one is PNY brand. My case is an
Enlight 7237 ATX medium medium tower, 250 watt.

I'm thinking I'd like to upgrade to get a little more speed. I like RPG
games, and I've got Morrowwind, and while it runs ok, it runs too slow to be
any fun.

I'd appreciate any advice on the best way to get a little more speed. I'm
prepared to get a new mb and processor. Any suggestions? Newegg has an
Aopen AK79D-400VN mb for $78 and an Athlon XP 2500+ for $92. Is that a good
choice, and will it work ok in my case. Should I spend a bit more money for
Intel. Will I need anything else? Is my graphics card good enough for
games like Morrowind?

That's a lot of questions, I know. I'm just looking for a little feedback
before I shell out my hard earned dollars.

Thanks,

Jack

I play Morrowind and it is a most excellent game, but it is a huge
resources hog. You need at least 512 MB of RAM and a 1 Ghz or better
CPU. Any up-to-date Geforce or ATI vid card should be OK.

Currently I have an 1800+ Athlon XP system with 512 MB DDR RAM and and
an ATI All-In-Wonder 8500. These are adequate to get very good
Morrowind performance. I strongly recommend that you consider upgrading
to at least a new NFORCE2 motherboard, with 2 sticks of DDR to take
advantage of the dual-chanel advantage. A new XP-compatible NFORCE2
mobo, cpu, and DDR RAM can come for under 200. USD, including shipping.
You may want to get a new case and power supply, too.

OK, I'm gonna go out on a limb here and suggest just a wee bit more RAM :-)
