Upgrade problem

I've just upgraded from win2k to win xp pro
when I open my outlook file I get an error message that says:
"Cannot Start Microsoft Outlook. Could not open the item. Try again"

HELP

To the OP, what version of Office/Outlook and did you upgrade that as well at the same time? Have you tried a new mail profile as it appears that yours is corrupt.

MS Office does take kindly to OS upgrades. The best way, in retrospect, is
to save all your settings in Outlook. Saving your personal folder contents
in pst file format to removable media. Uninstall Office while in the former
OS. Then install Office new on the newly installed OS. Restore your
settings for Outlook. Restore your personal folder with the pst file.

Your only option at this point is to do a repair install of Office.

If you meant Outlook Express, not Outlook, please indicate that.
