When I try to upgrade my HP Pavilion w5050.be (with AMD 64BIT processor) with Windows XP home SP2 to Windows XP pro SP2 I get the following problem after the upgrade:

The PC will reboot endless (even after 10 minuts ) .
The same problem when the computer reboots in safe mode.

The response of the helpdesk of HP was, this typeof computer has not been tested with Windows XP pro.

Someone a idea?

Thanks in advance

Thats a simple issue just boot from the cd ( windows pro with sp2 )
then hit enter on the first screen and then R for repair and just go ahead and repair the whole windows installation and that should work.

If that does not work let me know

I've got the same problem with a Compaq Presario with an AMD 64 bit processor. The CD -solution does not work - it was the first thing I tried.
Does XP Pro have an issue with this processor?

Should not be an issue with the processor - don’t worry you will find it’s almost always Software that’s causing the problem.

Its been well documented that upgrading operating systems don’t always run smoothly, is there a chance you can back up any important files you may need on your C: or Local Disk partition and install xp pro from a fresh? It should work much better that way

Hope it helps

I will lose all the pre-installed applications though. I can only get those through Compaq recovery.

The problem is that HP-Compaq doesn't provide any cd's of the pre-installed applictions.
When you install a fresh XP Pro these applications are lost.

Hp has an inbuilt partition that helps you do a system resovery.

to activate this you have to press f10 when we see thw hp logo and there u go.

the basic reason for the reboot loop is cause of an incompatible device driver.

the best think to do would be to do a restore from the hp f10 backup and then update all drivers and then do a clean boot by using the msconfig utility and then try the update from the windows home to pro

Yeasterday i resive a message from HP, when the PC reboots endless do the following steps.

- shutdown the PC
- remove the USB mouse
- start the PC and now the endless rebooting nust stops.

I can't try it out now, I install XP Pro from scratch.

I hope this will help others
